Hawaii regulators have denied a request from Hawaiian Electric Co. to develop a $40 million solar energy farm near the Honolulu-based company's Kahe Generating Station in West Oahu.
The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission said Friday that it did not approve the utility's request for a waiver from the competitive bidding framework for its 15-megawatt Kahe solar photovoltaic project because it would not result in the lowest possible electricity prices for consumers.
